Narrow Streets in Barcelona Gothic Quarter

Barcelona Gothic Quarter

Barcelona Gothic Quarter - the Barrì Gothic - with its historical buildings, the typical narrow streets and its bursting life is one of my favorite areas of the Catalonia Capital.

The neighborhood hosts some of the main monuments, like the Cathedral and the stunning Church of Santa Maria del Pi, the Picasso Museum and the breathtaking Palau de la Musica Catalana, one of the highest examples of Modernist architecture. Barcelona Gothic Quarter invites the visitors to stroll in its labyrinthine structure, enjoying every single detail, like the old signs, the beautifully shaped wrought-iron window grids, the painted decorations of the facades of a few houses, the lively bars offering tapas.

  1. Really great picture, those are the scenes we will be looking for when we visit Barcelona next February (with our kids). Do you have any other special tips for us (more the off the beaten track ones)?
    Thanks
    Emiel

    • Thank you, Emiel. Personally, I would suggest hiring bikes and going along the modernism route (Ruta del modernism) http://www.wild-about-travel.com/2010/08/barcelona-modernism-route/. I would also suggest a visit to Park Guell, beautiful for both adults and kids. If you have a little time, you could head for a day trip (or week-end) to Girona. The medieval town is awesome, and there are no cars :-)

  2. I have lots of photos on my blog of Barcelona. We stayed in the Gothic area in Hotel 1898. It was awesome. The narrow streets, the markets & our tour on the hop on hop off buses allow you to see lots. Check out my blog and look under the Label for the many Barcelona Spain posts. http://www.debbytravels.blogspot.com and enjoy. Thanks

  3. Angela, Ayngelina, I’m sure you would love Barcelona and especially the Gothic Quarter. There’s so much beauty and wonderful life in there!

  4. Beautiful picture, I stayed in Barça only one day so couldn’t make it to the Barrio Gothico, I heard the architecture is amazing, next time I won’t miss it ;)
