A Room with a View

A Room with a View

The window is not overlooking Florence, as in the famous novel by Edward M. Forster and the acclaimed film directed by James Ivory. Still the Waterhead Boutique Hotel, with its magnificent view on the Windermere Lake, brought my memory back to that very special ambience so wonderfully described in ‘A room with a view‘.

At the Waterhead Hotel, I experienced what I consider the essence of British elegance. An exquisite blend of history, old classic furniture, comfort and warmth. A place with a personal style and a unique flavor, which to me is much more important than luxury.

My stay, together with my friend Keith, was part of a Quirky Tour of the Lake District I had been dreaming of for a long time. I met Zoe, the lovely lady organizing personalized and unusual visits of the Lake District, last winter in London at the Travellers Tales Festival. And while we were enjoying dinner and glass of good wine, she talked about the Lake District and its beauty with such an enthusiasm that I got truly enchanted and knew that this was a place I had to visit as soon as I got the chance.

The right time came in March, as an extension of the Travel Bloggers Unite Conference in Manchester. Zoe got in touch with Keith and myself and offered us a Quirky Tour of the Lake District, to visit and enjoy the place she loves so much. The only thought made me wild!

Zoe was right. The Lake District is really awesome, and we very lucky enough to have a sunny and bright day. The overnight stay at the Waterhead Hotel was a perfect choice. It was lovely to spend the night on the shore of the Windermere Lake, enjoying a breathtaking sunset, savoring an excellent Dinner at The Bay restaurant and sipping a wonderful Pinotage with Keith.

I have only one regret… It was too short. But that’s also a very good reason to come back and have a longer stay.  I’d love to spend a few days in the Lake District, to discover more quirky places and facts with Zoe, and hike the fells with Stewart, whose amazing photographies struck my imagination and my heart!

Great to see blog posts about the Lake District. We used to go camping there and trekking in the fells most weekends in the summer months. Ambleside is one of our favourite places in the world! We know Zoe through Twitter because we were so happy to find a connection to the Lakes. Yes, she is enthusiastic about the area – and why wouldn’t you be? 🙂
